Nordic walking week end on the Island of Elba

Come and try Nordic walking (brisk pace walking with poles) with us on the paths of Elba Island.

It is a simple and fun sport discipline suitable for all ages that allows you to combine the positive effects of sport (toning up the muscles of shoulders, chest, thighs, buttocks, abdomen and back) with relaxation and fun. Island of Elba, with its pristine paths, silence and colours is an ideal place for Nordic walking.

Weekend Nordic Walking program

1st day – Friday:

arrival on Elba, meeting with our guide, dinner, overnight stay.

2 nd day Saturday:

Marina di Campo San Piero M.te Perone Sant’Ilario Marina di Campo

Length:18 Km

Travel time 8 hours

Difficulty level: hard

Interest:, Historical, naturalistic, photographic

Starting from Marina di Campo village, after a few meters on a flat trail we take another one uphill that leads us directly to San Piero. Here a detour to Piazza di Facciatoia allows us to enjoy a beautiful view over Marina di Campo. After leaving the village of San Piero, we continue our ascent on granite flat rocks, among cistus, strawberry trees while overlooked by majestic chestnut trees. Once in Castagnole we stop at a natural spring to quench our thirst. From there we take a trail that bring us up to Masso alla Quata (745 m.a.s.l.), thereafter our path becomes easier and slighty downhill till Monte Maolo. That is where our long descent towards Marina di Campo begins. The initially steep trail leads us to Monte Perone where we stop for a short break under the pines shade. Our descent towards Marina di Campo is pleasant thanks to the regular ground, not to mention a beautiful panorama. Arrived at Sant’ Ilario, we continue on a short asphalt stretch then onto a path leading us to Marina di Campo where our excursion ends.

3rd day  – Sunday:

San Piero- Le cave antiche- San Piero

Length:8 Km

Travel time 3 hours

Difficulty level: easy

Interest:, Historical, naturalistic, panoramic

We start our hike on an effortless but anyhow slightly uphill path from San Nicolò Church in the direction of Sassi Ritti, a place where the presence of 4 Menhirs is evidence of it being an ancient burial site. This is a relevant area, not only for the clues it holds of people living on Elba centuries ago, it is also a beautiful vantage point from which overlook the Islands of Montecristo and Giglio as well as the actual “steak” shape of Pianosa Island. Here, the path becomes flatter and at about 1.7 km from where we set off, we encounter a perfectly preserved shepherd’s shelter. These dome constructions, similar to igloos, were used by farmers until few years ago. 3 Km further we get to one of Elba most important sites: the ancient granite quarries from the Roman era. In this beautiful and fascinating location, our path begins to swiftly descend onto smooth granite, accordingly we have to be extra careful to where we put our feet and poles. Arrived in Cavoli, we cover a short even stretch, then take an uphill path towards San Piero.
