How to get to the island of Elba

The Island of Elba can be reached by ferry from Piombino Marittima harbour. Its main port of arrival is Portoferraio, or alternatively, both harbours of Rio Marina and Cavo can be just as practical.  A faster 40 minutes connection by hydrofoil, able to carry passengers only, is also available from / to Portoferraio.

 

By Car:

From the North (see map): From Milan take the  A1 motorway, once at Parma Ovest take A 15 leading into A12 Genova-Livorno, exit at Rosignano, continue on S.S. Aurelia up to the Venturina-Isola d’Elba exit, from there, follow for Piombino Marittima.

From the North-East (see map): Take the A1 motorway Bologna-Firenze-Pisa-Livorno: exit at Rosignano, continue on S.S. Aurelia up to the Venturina-Isola d’Elba exit then follow for Piombino Marittima. Alternatively, take the S.G.C. Firenze-Pisa-Livorno: exit at Firenze Signa, continue onto S.S.Aurelia up to Collesalvetti then enter again the motorway all the way to Rosignano Marittima, from there take the S.S. freeway up to the Venturina-Isola d’Elba exit then follow for Piombino Marittima.

From the South (see map): Travel the whole A12 Rome-Grosseto motorway, then take S.S. Aurelia up to the Venturina-Isola d’Elba exit, continue towards Piombino Marittima.

 

By Plane: The Island of Elba is connected to the mainland by various flights, during the summer only, operated by both Italian and foreign airlines. The local airport is situated in La Pila, approx. 2 Km from our head office, and it is connected to Milan, Zurich, Bern, Altenrhein and Munich.

 

By train:

Alight at Piombino Marittima train station right by the ferries dock (train timetables can be found online www.trenitalia.it
