| | | Route: Marina di Campo San Piero M.te Perone Sant’Ilario Marina di Campo Distance: 18 km Time: 8 hours Difficulty: challenging Interest: historical, naturalistic, panoramic.
| We leave from the town of Marina di Campo after a few metres along a path on the plain, we take another that climbs directly up to San Piero. Here we take a diversion to Piazza di Facciatoia (Square) to see the beautiful view of Marina di Campo. Leaving the village of San Piero we continue our ascent on granite, among rock roses, strawberry trees and higher up among majestic chestnut trees. On arriving in the Castagnole area we find a spring where we stop to quench our thirst. From here we take a track taking us to Masso alla Quata (745 m asl), the route, then, becomes easy with a slight descent as far as Monte Maolo. From this point our descent to Marina di Campo begins. At first the track is steep and leads to Monte Perone where under the shade of pine trees we take a break. The descent to Marina di Campo is very pleasant, the path surface is good and the view is fantastic. On arriving at Sant’Ilario we continue on tarmac for a short stretch and then take a path that leads to Marina di Campo where our excursion ends. | | | Route: San Piero- Le cave antiche- San Piero Distance: 8 km Time: 3 hours Difficulty:easy Interest: historical, naturalistic, panoramic. | We start our excursion from the Chiesa di San Nicolò (church) on an easy route going up slightly in the direction of Sassi Ritti, an ancient burial place, witnessed by the presence of 4 menhir. This is a historically important area where people lived on Elba thousands of years ago also has beautiful views, we can see the Islands of Montecristo and Giglio and also the chop like form of the Island of Pianosa. From here the path is flat and at about 1.7 km from the start we find a perfectly preserved shepherd’s shelter. These constructions, similar to igloos, were used by farmers up until a few years ago. After about 3 km we get to one of the most important sites on Elba, the granite quarries from the Roman era. From this beautiful and fascinating point the path descends quickly along the granite rocks, we must be careful where we place our feet and poles. On arriving above Cavoli we follow a short stretch of path in a flat area then we start to climb up again in the San Piero direction. | | | | | Info: +39 0565 978005 - info@ilviottolo.com |
